Threshold concept
- What types of photographs are these? (You might consider genres such as Photojournalism, Street Photography, Still-Life, Snapshot, Candid, Abstract)
- Which (if any) seem obviously staged? And if so, why? What are the clues that suggest these might be 'constructed' images?
- Why might the artist want to mislead the viewer (but perhaps not fully)?
- Do any/all of the images leave you with questions or wanting further information?
- What role do the titles of the photographs play in shaping your understanding?
- Do some/all of the images have a similar style?
Threshold concept two
The threshold concepts can be useful as they are strategies that are used by photographers to create or improve their work. They can teach people how their work is made as well as new ways to create new photos. The concepts will make thinking about how photography works much more interesting than the original thought. Compared to at the beginning I have learnt a lot about the work through the concepts and it helps to create new pieces of work.

Abelardo Morell
Abelardo Morell is a photographer based in Boston and uses a camera obscura to display his work mainly on rooms in his house. His work became famous with his work with a homemade camera obscura which was customised many times. It was originally a 3/8 inch hole through black plastic but then lens were added to sharpen the image so that it was not such a blur
Camera Obscura
A camera obscura is a dark room with a pin hole that allows the light into the room, it is the lens of the camera which projects an image on to the dark room. The image is obscured so it is flipped upside down although being fine otherwise.
The lesson
Within the lesson we created a camera obscura and to do so we had to moved many things away from the window so we would have a easier access to the windows which we covered with black sugar paper and used sellotape to hold it down. We used black sugar paper as it was the most colour absorbent meaning no sun light was let through. We split up in to groups to make the work load easier. As a group we had to be quick, effective, patient and collaborative to make sure it was done on time. The final outcome was the building behind us reflected on to the sheets of paper infront of us
