Photo-booth selfies
Here are may favorite but incredibly stupid selfies I took on photo-booth
Masked Selfies
In these photos you can see we decided to create photo opportunities with random materials we had
Victor Omar Diop
- What characters does Victor Diop become in his selfies and why? He takes selfies of himself as forgotten historical figures of Africa, he said he is aiming to revisit the history as heritage of Africans and people of African-decent
- Why does he choose those characters? He chose these characters as they are forgotten from history and they could also be a family member who has made a mark in local history
- Why do you think he makes a connection between himself and the historical figures he depicts in his selfies? through his work he can remember them and hopefully his work can bring attention to these historical figures, and he might feel like Senegal is being under rated in historical events so he is showing Senegalese people who has made a mark on current history
- What advice would he give to a young photographer? His advice to young people is to start now and you don’t need a professional camera because now even with a phone you can create beautiful images, and all ways show it
- Who would you like to become in your selfie, and why? I would like to become forgotten people who made a stand for the right thing as the BLM protests have shown that everyone can help make a mark in history as an example Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi who started the organisation in 2013
Mask and Costume Selfie
Which character did you become and why?
I became a crazy rich person who had a odd choice in style just like their life and the reason why was to show that no matter what lifestyle you have it can be quite odd
What material did you use?
I used graphite, paper bag and colored chalk pastels
What went well?
The thing that went well was probably the collaboration as we normally argue

Selfie introduction collage
- Select the 6 images that you feel best represent you.
- Make a pile of these 6 pages on your desk.
- Take the top page and cut a hole in it (Note: it doesn't have to be perfect). Put both pieces at bottom of your pile.
- Take the (new) top page and tear it in half. Put both pieces at the bottom of your pile.
- Take the (new) top page and cut out a shape at random. Put both pieces at the bottom of your pile.
- Take the (new) top page and cut round an object. Put both pieces at the bottom of your pile.
- Take the (new) top page and tear a strip from the (top or bottom) edge. Put both pieces at the bottom of your pile.
- Take the (new) top page, and cut or tear it in whichever way you choose. Put the pieces at the bottom of your pile.
- Place the A3 sheet of cartridge paper in front of you (portrait or landscape format).
- Without altering them, arrange the pieces of paper from your pile on the A3 sheet to create a pleasing collage. Carefully photograph your first arrangement.
- Again, without altering them, repeat this process, re-arranging the various elements on the A3 sheet until you are happy with the results. Photograph carefully.
- You may now adapt the pieces in any way you like - cutting, tearing etc. Make a new collage, this time sticking them to the A3 sheet of cartridge paper.
- Photograph your finished collage carefully.
- On your Selfies page add the title Selfie Instruction Collage.
- Copy and paste this list of instructions.
- Add a Gallery and upload the images you have taken today of your collages.
- Write a brief evaluation (WWW/EBI) reflecting on what it was like to make a collage by following instructions and how you feel about the results.
- Answer the question: Is the collage a self-portrait?
- If you complete all of this, try experimenting with layering the collage using the single-colour function on the photocopier.
WWW: There is only a couple things that went well on purpose and that was the way that you can see through the collage, the tears of the paper, how the pictures were quite central, that the pieces on the side were linked to the main photo (the nature) and the choice in color on the photocopies.
although I chose to stay in the centre and have little bits to the side the pattern came out and
EBI: I needed to spread the pictures out more as if they were more scattered the pattern would of came out better on the sheet for example if the palm tree was more to the left we would of been able to see the photo behind it and there could be a palm tree on both sides. There was not a a lot of the stuff to show about me

The collage is as a self-portrait as it shows you but not current you, it shows a feature of you from the past (you can see younger me's hand). Although for me I had younger me it could be any part of the person creating the collage.
Narrative sequencing: Lee Friedlander's Shadow selfies'.
WWW: I put the photos in a appropriate order and put the arrows in a good order to make the story seem appealing
EBI: If the idea was original it would be better, and the story although appealing it could be better if it had a different topic and consumed more space

What is the role of shadows in the sequences?
The shadows took the role of the main characters prospective
How did adding words impact the images?
Adding the words gave the photos a storyline to follow
What has narrative sequencing taught us about the nature of photography
It has taught us that photographs can be viewed in multiple prospectives

Shadow selfie practical
WWW:
I did quite well with capturing multiple people within most of the images and using the stone benches to twist the view of my shadow but I also captured myself on grass and concrete
EBI: If i had more pictures with multiple people and had a few secretly showing me would tease the viewers

Aperture selfies
Cubist selfies
Alma Haser is a promising photographer and makes cubist selfies mainly and all of them are fantastic and individual to her style
The portrait was chosen as it has only used hands to address and it really intrigued me with the repetitive use of only the hands and showing the jewellery to identify the person

My attempt
WWW: something that went well was the fact that I managed to fit all of the pieces into the square and that it is jumbled up
EBI: The thing that would of made it better is if there wasn't any space spare as you can see the background paper when looking at it
A artist might be interested in multiple view points in their self-portraits as there can be multiple naratives from a set of photos, and overlapping view points would be used to confuse the people on what is going on

Selfie essay
In Kenneth Josephson’s photo there is multiple things to focus on such as the five vehicles and the many people but then you can look at the things outside the frame of the black square. There are many frames as everything could be considered a frame from a window till a mirror. In Francesca Woodman’s photo she was very smart as took a photo of a mirror whilst she was hiding behind a mirror so you can see her surroundings, although not being able to see her fully you can see her hand. Her use of a mirror could also be considered a frame.
Kenneth Josephson has used the frames to make an endless loop to mesmerise the viewers whilst Francesca Woodman has made an endless loop by the mirrors. The loops from each other have a massive contrast between them as one of them has a focus on actual frames but the other doesn’t use actual frames.
In Kenneth’s Photo he has made an interest about what he looks like as you can only see his arm and his hat but in Francesca’s work you are only able to see her hand, they both have a different way of creating their work, but both of the pictures are quite mysterious.
I prefer Kenneth’s work as he has made it harder to figure out what he looks like although give many clues and the illusion of the number of frames included in the single photo although Francesca’s work is amazing, Kenneth’s work was better in my eyes. I will try to add mystery to my photos
